KAAL TV (ABC) ran a story about the environmental impacts of self-washing and commercial car washes. The story points to the often times misunderstood environmental impacts of car washes. Speaking about how wash water contaminates get into the water supply when “home” washing our cars, the story suggests that taking your car to a commercial car wash is the best way to be environmentally friendly, “The best way to avoid these contaminates from getting into our water is to take your car to a commercial car wash. At commercial car washes, the wash water is sent to the sanitary sewer and treated to remove pollutants.”

“If you’re not facing a drought, is reclamation worth the expense?” ASI Director of Sales and Marketing Joel Wollin answers this question by providing a cost/benefit analysis of water reclamation projects that might surprise you in the September 2008 issue of Professional Carwashing & Detailing magazine.

The article discusses how eco-friendly practices are having an impact on the carwash industry and specifically water use issues. Rather than focus on environmentally friendly marketing and the “green” hype, the articles focuses on the financial aspects of water use decisions that carwash operators face; cost savings, reclaim and reuse strategies, and regulatory issues.
